Sri C R Patil, Honourable Union Minister, Ministry of Jalshakti ranched endangered Mahaseer at Haridwar
On the occasion of Ganga Utsav, ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore has released about 6,000 Mahseer fingerlings into the River Ganga in the august presence of Shri C.R. Patil, Hon'ble Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Govt of India.
Fishes were released as a part of National Ranching program on 4th November, 2024 at Chandi Ghat to conserve and restore them.
The event was organized under National Mission of Clean Ganga project with a aim to increase and restore the population of decreasing Mahseer in the Himalayan stretch of the Ganga river. Being the important fish of cold water, ICAR-CIFRI has been entrusted to conserve and enhance the fish for ecological and livelihood purposes.
The program was attended Shri Rajbhushan Chaudhary, Hon'ble Minister of State, Ministry of Jalshakti, Govt of India, Srimati Rekha Arya, Hon'ble Minister, Govtof Uttarakhand, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Hon'ble Ex-CM Uttarakhand and Member of Parliament (LS), Haridwar, Shri Rajeev Kumar Mital, IAS, DG NMCG, Dr. Sandeep Behra Biodiversity Consultant NMCG, Dr. B.K. Das, Director ICAR-CIFRI Barrackpore and other dignitaries and religious seers.
